Abstract

This work aimed to reflect on sociocultural aspects that are present in the photographic records of Nayara Jinknss. Five photographs of the Ver-o-Peso Market were chosen, in which visual narratives are loaded with meanings that reveal both the history and beauty of the city, as well as the reality of many inhabitants of Belém, who are in a situation of great social vulnerability. For the analysis of Jinknss' photographs, we sought to follow a dialogue with the authors Barthes (1984), Joly (2007), Viviane and Noronha (2021) from the areas of image analysis, photography and decoloniality, with a qualitative-descriptive and exploratory research. We conclude that the analyzed photographs go beyond the boundaries of aesthetic records, constituting a visual narrative surrounded by signs that constitute an alternative of resistance in the face of serious social problems.
